This ESL lesson plan on gun control will get your advanced students talking! Gun control is a divisive topic that makes for great conversation. In this video and article based lesson - students explore the positives and negatives of gun control.
Students begin by watching a video “Canada Vs. USA: Who Does Gun Control Better?” by AJ+ to highlight the difference in gun control between the countries. Vocabulary is explored by completing questions with the video vocabulary and then discussing them.
Then, students move on to an article that talks about the disadvantages of gun control. Using these two sources of information - students need to make contrasting statements using conjunctions such as: although, nevertheless, whereas, while, in spite of and despite. Afterwards, students get to choose a side and debate the topic at hand. This ESL lesson plan on gun control finished with a relevant idioms exercise. Activities:
