This A1 ESL lesson introduces the topic “Jobs,” helping students learn and use simple vocabulary to talk about different occupations, where people work, and what they do in their jobs. Learners explore common jobs such as waiter, nurse, pilot, lifeguard, hairdresser, lawyer, mechanic, and tour guide.
Students learn key job-related language such as “work in a hospital,” “work in a restaurant,” “help people,” “work outside,” “work with customers,” and “work long hours.” They also practise simple past and present forms to describe jobs and experiences, for example “I worked as a waiter” and “I am studying to be a nurse.”
The lesson includes speaking activities, ranking tasks, reading texts, matching exercises, picture discussions, and simple opinion questions about jobs and careers. Students are encouraged to give basic reasons using phrases like “because it is interesting,” “because I like people,” and “because it is difficult.”
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to name common jobs, describe what people do at work using simple sentences, and talk about their own job preferences and future career ideas.
