Lesson Overview
In this C1 ESL lesson plan, students explore the fascinating topic of money psychology, examining how personality, emotions, upbringing and social influences can shape the way we think about and manage money. They begin by exploring different attitudes towards money through thought-provoking scenarios and a video, learning about four different money personalities and how they can influence financial behaviour.
Students develop advanced vocabulary related to risk, spending, financial decision-making and personal values while completing video comprehension activities, analysing different money personalities, and discussing their own attitudes towards money. They then take a money personality quiz and put themselves in the role of a financial therapist, analysing realistic financial situations and giving advice.
The lesson challenges students to think critically about their own financial behaviour and consider some important questions: How does our personality influence our finances? Why do we make irrational financial decisions? And are we really in control of our money?
