At ESL Pals, we're here to make teaching easier and save you time.

Our Fair Use Policy helps us make sure the ESL Pals library is being used as a teaching resource, while keeping the service available and useful for everyone.

We know every teacher works differently, so you're free to use ESL Pals in the way that works best for you.

Downloading Materials

You're welcome to download the materials you reasonably need for your teaching, generally for the next day or two of lessons. There is no fixed number of downloads that makes something fair or unfair; what matters is how the materials are being used.

If you're downloading lessons for your teaching, that's exactly what the download feature is there for. What we don't allow is downloading large amounts of the library primarily to build an offline collection for future use.

You Can Use ESL Pals Without Downloading

Your subscription also includes unlimited access to:

  • Teach Online
  • E-lessons
  • Interactive tests

So you can continue teaching and using the ESL Pals library whenever you need, using whichever format works best for you. 🧡

What We Consider Bulk Downloading

Bulk downloading generally means downloading materials primarily for storage or future use rather than for your immediate teaching needs.

Examples may include:

  • Downloading large numbers of lessons that you do not currently need for teaching.
  • Repeatedly downloading materials each day to build up an offline collection.
  • Downloading substantial parts of the library in advance "just in case".
  • Downloading materials across a wide range of levels or topics that are unrelated to your current teaching needs.
  • Using automated tools, scripts or other methods to download materials at scale.
  • Attempting to bypass or work around download limits.

This list isn't exhaustive. We may consider other activities or patterns of use when reviewing whether an account is being used in accordance with this Fair Use Policy.

What If I Have Unreliable Internet?

We understand that some teachers have unreliable, slow or limited internet access.

If you know you'll have limited internet access while teaching, you're welcome to download the materials you reasonably expect to need in advance.

However, internet connectivity issues don't mean that large parts of the ESL Pals library can be downloaded for future or indefinite use.

If you have a particular situation that means you need to download more materials than usual, please contact [email protected]. We're always happy to help.

How We Monitor Downloads

We monitor download activity to help protect the ESL Pals library and keep the service available for teachers who use it as intended.

We may use automated systems, including AI-powered tools, alongside manual review to identify unusual or potentially excessive download activity.

Staying below a daily download limit does not automatically mean that all download activity is considered fair use. We may consider the overall pattern of activity over time.

If We Notice Unusual Download Activity

If download activity appears to fall outside our Fair Use Policy, we may take steps to protect the ESL Pals library.

Depending on the activity and its history, this may include, a reminder about our Fair Use Policy, an automated email reminder, additional download restrictions, suspension of the account in cases of repeated or significant bulk downloading.

If your account is suspended and you believe there has been a mistake, please contact us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to review the situation.

Our Aim

We don't want to make downloading difficult or stop you from preparing properly for your lessons.

If you're downloading materials because you need them for teaching, you're using ESL Pals exactly as intended.

We're simply asking that the download feature isn't used to create a separate offline copy of the ESL Pals library.

We plan, you teach. That's what we're here for. 🧡

Thanks for being part of the ESL Pals community, we really appreciate having you here!
