Lesson Overview
This A1 ESL lesson introduces the topic “The Gym,” helping students learn and use simple vocabulary to talk about gym places, equipment, and basic workout routines. Learners describe what people do at the gym, where they go, and who they go with, using everyday language.
Students learn key vocabulary such as “treadmill,” “dumbbells,” “exercise bike,” “rowing machine,” “bench,” and “personal trainer,” and practise using them in simple sentences like “I run on the treadmill” and “He lifts dumbbells at the gym.” They also use basic verbs such as “go,” “do,” “use,” “lift,” and “run” to describe simple gym routines.
The lesson includes speaking activities, true or false tasks, gap-fill dialogues, picture discussion, and “this or that” opinion questions. Students are encouraged to talk about their own routines using simple phrases like “I go to the gym…” and “I like the gym because…”.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to name common gym equipment, describe simple gym routines, and give basic opinions about going to the gym.
