Lesson Overview
If your student works in hospitality, has worked in hospitality or is thinking about a career in hospitality then this lesson is perfect for them! In fact, everybody has experience as an employee or a customer so this lesson can be used with all students.
This ESL hospitality business conversation class is aimed at intermediate students, as it uses an easy-to-follow video which contains level specific vocabulary. The new words taught at the start of the lesson and throughout the video are applicable to all walks of life, and are essential to know if a student wishes to progress their English level.
This ESL business hospitality lesson follows a tight structure. Despite being a conversation class, it is still very important to have a structure. Having a structure allows learners to feel comfortable, while showing them that you are prepared for class. Without structure and scaffolding, participants will fall back to using words they already know, meaning they don’t progress. The structure is as follows:
- Warmer
- Vocabulary definitions exercise.
- Vocabulary free-talk task.
- General hospitality questions.
- Video analysis questions.
- Debate
Homework:
- Article: Four tips for working in hospitality.
- Artice: vocabulary exercise.
- Article: Writing task.
