HELP & FAQS
GENERAL QUESTIONS
ESL Pals started out as a “lockdown idea” between two teachers stuck abroad during the pandemic in 2020. An increase in lesson requests and a little to no resources online sparked the idea of ESL Pals, a place where teachers can find engaging material for children and thought-provoking lessons for adults.
The syllabus is a mix of theory and our practical experience. The aim of ESL Pals is not to be another textbook, but to be more interesting and creative. In the competing ESL world of today, you need to have lesson plans that stand out. The main purpose of ESL Pals is to facilitate guided conversations while simultaneously learning grammar and expanding vocabulary. As second-language learners, we believe that the best way to learn is through practice.
Therefore, the syllabus is aimed to cover grammar topics laid out by textbooks, but in a fun and interesting way. Please note that we regularly add new lesson plans, if you want to see a specific topic or grammar point covered, please reach out!
However, our recommendation is:
- Kids Lessons: With Kids, we prefer to share our screens. This way, you can work through the slides with your students. Teachers use different sharing platforms depending on their preference. Be sure to use a platform that enables students to draw and write on the slides. This way, the slides become more interactive. There are three lessons per kids unit.
- Adult Lessons: Adults lesson plans are set up in a way to entertain and engage students in the lesson. By offering interesting topics, they feel more eager to participate in class, ultimately making them progress faster. With these lesson plans, we like to send the SV (Student Version) beforehand so that students can watch the video in their own time and read through exercises. In class, you can work through the activities with your students. These activities cover reading, listening and speaking. It is important to get your student to talk as much as possible in the lesson, this is the only opportunity they have to practice in a controlled environment. After class, you can send through the TV (Teacher Version) with the answers to the lesson plans as well as the homework activities.
- Grammar Lessons: The grammar worksheets can double up as a full lesson or as homework activities. We like to use them as homework activities or specifically with certain students when we feel that they need to brush up on a certain grammar point.
