Lesson overview
In this B2 ESL lesson plan, students explore the topic of veganism and examine the wider environmental, health, and social impact of eating meat. They begin by considering how a world without meat could affect food prices, jobs, traditional cultures, wildlife, and the environment.
Students then watch a video about what would happen if everyone stopped eating meat, learning about issues including greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, overfishing, livelihoods, and global food production. They practise listening and comprehension while analysing the possible consequences of a meat-free world.
The lesson also includes vocabulary activities, a vegan food identification task, and a decision-making activity in which students consider how difficult different aspects of becoming vegan would be.
Students then analyse a series of pictures showing problems connected to meat consumption before working through realistic case studies and discussing different perspectives on veganism.
